apples alternative fall break aka three days of mafia

Well I am back from Fall Break.

This time instead of lazing about, I decided to try and do something useful. So I did the APPLES Alternative Fall Break. Over the break I went to Hendersonville, NC (up around Asheville) with 9 other students to study issues relating to migrant works. We volunteered two days at a community health clinic called the Blue Ridge Community Health Center and also took a tour of a farm and spoke with Juan, the supervisor for the migrants on that particular farm. We also spoke with an Outreach Coordinator for the clinic and other employees. It was good I think. The trip was new so there were some glitches, but overall I think I got alot from it.

I learned alot from being able to talk to Juan and Victor (Outreach Coordinator). I also got to see how a small, community clinic functions. It made me really rethink practicing at a large hospital. I can see the importance of these centers and what a difference they make. Its something real and tangible and I would like to be a part of it. Perhaps I will get the change.

Well as I said, break is over and its time to get right back into the swing of things. I have scondaries for medical school to turn in as well as applications for alternative career routes to do as well. I need to see about that second job i've been toying with as well. Busy, busy, busy is how I stay.

Good news: Think mommy is coming to see me this weekend. Yay! I haven't been home in forever, and I probably won't lay eyes on Wilson until Thanksgiving Break. Such is my life and since I do NOT plan to return to reside there i'd best get use to being away for long stretches of time.
